This page lets you compare the amount of plain language issues in NZ Govt websites. Data is from NZ Govt's official figures, as part of the CWAC monitoring programme.

Plain language is communication that is appropriate for its intended audience, clear, concise, and well-organised — allowing people to easily find, understand, and use the information they need. It matters especially to people with cognitive or learning disabilities, and people reading in a second language. This test uses the SMOG formula, which is an algorithm that estimates text readability. Govt websites should aim for a SMOG grade of 8.

Note: The SMOG algorithm estimates text readability. It cannot prove if text is easy or difficult to read. Manual human review is required.
